When you add a job to a route, it can increase the number of kilometres travelled by the technician or delivery driver.
To prevent certain routes from becoming too long or too costly, AntsRoute allows you to define a maximum additional distance.
With this setting, you stay in control of the extra kilometres added when scheduling new jobs.
What are these settings used for?
Two separate settings are available:
1️⃣ Maximum distance for adding a first job
This setting applies when a route is still empty.
👉 If adding the first job exceeds the defined limit (in kilometres), no availability will be suggested for that route.
Example:
If you set a limit of 20 km and the first job requires an additional 25 km compared to the agents’ departure locations, it will not be offered for that route.
2️⃣ Maximum distance for adding jobs
This setting applies to routes that already contain at least one job.
👉 If adding a new job increases the total distance beyond the defined limit, the optimisation will not suggest this option.
Example:
Your limit is set to 10 km.
If adding a job increases the route by 12 km, it will not be suggested.
How do you enable this option?
Follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings module.
- From the Settings tab in the side menu, click on Optimisation.
- Enter:
- Maximum allowed distance to add a first delivery to a route (km)
- and/or Maximum allowed distance to add deliveries (km)
- Click Save to confirm your changes.
Conclusion
The maximum distance setting is a simple way to keep control of your routes.
By defining a limit that suits your business, you can avoid excessively long journeys and improve the profitability of your operations.
