Service types in AntsRoute allow you to define common settings for your deliveries or service visits, such as duration, required skills, delivery location, or time slots.
When planning a delivery or a service visit, it is possible to select several service types for the same job.
In this case, AntsRoute automatically applies specific rules to ensure consistent planning.
This article explains how multiple selection works and the rules that are applied.
How multiple service type selection works
When planning, you can select one or more service types for the same delivery or service visit.
Once several service types are selected, AntsRoute:
- combines certain settings (duration, skills),
- applies shared rules for time slots and delivery location.
The rules below are applied automatically and require no additional action on your part.
Rules applied when selecting multiple service types
➡️ Service duration
When several service types are selected:
- the total duration corresponds to the sum of the durations defined for each service type.
This total duration is used for route planning and optimization.
➡️ Required skills
The skills associated with each selected service type are combined.
The delivery driver or technician must therefore have all the required skills for the job to be scheduled.
➡️ Delivery location
The delivery or service location must be the same for all selected service types.
When planning:
- as soon as a first service type is selected,
- service types with a different delivery location are automatically grayed out and can no longer be selected.
➡️ Time slots for scheduling appointments
When several service types are selected:
- the time slots defined in the service types are not taken into account.
The default time slots for appointment booking defined in the site default settings are applied instead.
➡️ Default time slot (basket, import, and recurrence)
When several service types are selected:
- the default time slot defined in the service types is not applied in the following cases: planning from the delivery basket, importing deliveries, and planning recurring jobs.
The default time slot (basket, import and recurrence) defined in the site default settings is used.
➡️ Prices
The prices associated with each selected service type are combined.
Example: planning a delivery with multiple service types
You plan a delivery by selecting two service types:
Service type A
- Duration: 20 minutes
- Required skill: Installation
- Delivery location: At the customer’s location
- Time slot: 08:00–10:00
Service type B
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Required skill: Maintenance
- Delivery location: At the customer’s location
- Time slot: 09:00–11:00
During planning:
Total duration
→ The delivery duration is 50 minutes (20 + 30).
Required skills
→ The delivery driver or technician must have both Installation and Maintenance skills.
Delivery location
→ Both service types have the same location, so they can be selected together.
→ Service types with a different location would be grayed out and unavailable.
Time slots
→ The time slots defined in service types A and B are not applied.
→ The time slots used are those defined in the site default settings.
The delivery is therefore planned as a single job, combining all the constraints of both service types.
Conclusion
Selecting multiple service types allows you to group several standardized settings within a single delivery or service visit.
AntsRoute automatically applies clear rules:
- cumulative durations and skills,
- a shared delivery location constraint,
- application of time slots defined in the site default settings.
This makes it possible to plan complex jobs while maintaining a consistent and well-controlled organization.
